Girl Board Releases ‘Ward’, a Debut Album About Identity, Mental Health & Community

Girl Board, the project of Bridget Filiatrault, just released their debut album Ward.

Written over the course of two and a half years during the beginning of Filiatrault’s transition, Ward documents a period of change, uncertainty, and self-discovery. The songs explore struggles with mental health, feeling loved, and finding community. Following a recent bipolar diagnosis, Filiatrault found new context for many of the experiences captured across the record.

“I hope that the people who hear this record can feel some camaraderie with me,” says Filiatrault.

The album was introduced with debut single “Sodom,” a candid song about experiencing good sex for the first time at 22, setting the tone for the record’s deeply personal and unfiltered perspective.

Girl Board makes music by trans people, for trans people, pulling from an eclectic range of influences with a particular love for Glocca Morra, Modest Mouse, and Rozwell Kid.

Again, Ward is out now. Stream the new album here.
