King Rat Unveil “The Truth” Ahead of ‘The Words That Cut Me’
Philadelphia emo project King Rat return with their new single “The Truth,” out now – the first release from their upcoming album The Words That Cut Me, arriving June 5. Known for making “silly and sad music for people and rats (sometimes),” the band blends cathartic emo songwriting with raw vulnerability and restless energy.
“The Truth” centers on feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, and uncertainty – questioning the world around you, the people in it, and most importantly, yourself. Driven by jagged guitars and emotional urgency, the track captures the exhausting tension between wanting clarity and fearing what you might find when you finally face it.
The single introduces The Words That Cut Me, an album about obsession, longing, loneliness, and self-discovery. Written during a period of constant change, the record reflects the experience of trying to find your place while everything around you still feels unfamiliar. “This band has grown and developed into something wonderful, and each of us put an enormous amount of work into making this record exactly as it was imagined,” the band shares. “Here’s to 200 hours well spent.”
