Up Dog – “Disappointment At The Torchy’s”

Texas emo-punk outfit Up Dog have just released their new single “Disappointment At The Torchy’s” alongside pre-orders for their new EP Going Nowhere Fast – which is out November 11.

Blending jagged riffs, groovy bass, brass bursts, and ska-punk skank, Up Dog sound like PUP colliding with No Doubt. Their music is chaotic and communal, built for shower beers, basement two-stepping, and late-night texts to friends you haven’t seen in a while.

“Disappointment At The Torchy’s” opens the EP with a nostalgic punch – reflecting on DIY house shows and friendships that once felt infinite before adulthood got in the way. Lyrics like “I’ve been searching for that feeling / but I haven’t found it yet” capture the record’s tone: chasing connection in a world that makes it harder to find. The track takes its name from a hilariously bad band dinner at Torchy’s in Austin, while the EP itself weaves in snippets of a voicemail from trombone player Burger, frustrated after missed calls to hang out.

Going Nowhere Fast, recorded at Fuzzy Tiger Studios with Steven Jolly and mastered by Jas Nowicki, explores missing old friends, maintaining current relationships, and navigating the chaos of adult life – turning frustration into brash, cathartic anthems.
